On April 22, the partial amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Act on K-RoHS came into effect. This amendment applies specifically to Electrical and Electronic Equipment. As recycling has become more feasible for most of these products, the scope has been extended.
Key changes to the scope
Before: Electrical and electronic equipment designated in the Annex II of the Enforcement Decree
After: Electrical and electronic equipment designed for use at voltages of up to 1,500 volts DC or 1,000 volts AC.
Key obligations under the Act
Restriction on the Use of Hazardous Substances
Heavy metals: Lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, cadmium, and their compounds
Flame retardants: PBB & PBDE
Plasticizers: DEHP, DBP, DIBP & BBP
Promotion of Recycling through Material and Structural Improvements
Simplification of material types
Expansion of the use of recyclable plastics
Indication of plastic material information
Achievement of annual recycling rate targets through material and structural improvement activities
Obligations for Collection and Recycling, Provision of Recycling Information, etc.
